About the Books
What instruments are the books designed for?
The primary notation (Staff, ABC, Chords) works for all melody instruments (flute, fiddle, mandolin, accordion, etc.). In our session tune books, there are finger charts for most melody instruments. However, our specialised tutor books finger charts are specifically designed for the Tin Whistle. The content is universally valuable for building session repertoire.
Are the books suitable for complete beginners?
Yes! While our Session Books 1 & 2 are great for beginners to intermediate players, our Primary Tin Whistle Tutor is a complete guide that starts from the very first note and is perfect for absolute beginners.
Why do your books use wire binding?
The lay-flat wire binding is a core part of the Ceol Tracks method. It allows the book to lie perfectly flat on a music stand or lap, eliminating the frustration of fighting the pages while you practice.
Do the books come with companion audio?
Yes, every book purchase includes free, lifetime access to high-quality audio recordings for every tune. This is essential for learning ornamentation, rhythm, and playing by ear.
The Ceol Tracks Method
What is the benefit of the “One Tune Per Page” philosophy?
This philosophy eliminates visual clutter, allowing you to focus completely on mastering a single melody without distraction. It’s a structured approach that speeds up learning and solidifies your repertoire one step at a time.
How does the multi-format notation work?
Each tune is presented with traditional Staff Notation and the popular, simpler ABC Notation, along with Chord Symbols for accompaniment. This caters to all learning styles simultaneously and makes the music accessible no matter your reading preference.
Do you teach ornamentation in your session books?
While the session books focus on repertoire, we include essential music theory and finger charts to help you get up to speed quickly. Our dedicated Primary Tin Whistle Tutor provides the most detailed instruction on ornaments, cuts, rolls, and taps.
